PURPOSE:
City Council approval is requested for a Utility Reimbursement Agreement for U-2581BA with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to support the construction of water and sewer line relocations and utility betterments to be installed with NCDOT Project U-2581BA. City Council approval of the agreement in the amount of $1,246,707.00 is requested.

BACKGROUND:
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is prepared and adopted plans to make highway improvements under Project U-2581BA in Guilford County. The project will include widening US 70 from Mount Hope Church Rd to Birch Creek Rd. The transportation improvements are in direct support to economic development in the area. City Council approval of a Utility Agreement is requested to support construction activities related to maintaining a reliable and consistent water service for our current and potential customers in the area. The NCDOT U-2581BA contract was awarded for $11,125,538.10. NCDOT is responsible for the widening improvements, intersection improvements and utility construction relocations located within existing permanent utility easements, while the City is responsible for the utility construction relocations and betterments of the water and sewer infrastructure located within the public right of way and represents 11.2% of the overall funding of the project.
