PURPOSE:
The Field Operations Department is responsible for meeting state and federal requirements to provide engineering and environmental monitoring and compliance at the City of Greensboro White Street Landfill, Transfer Station on Burnt Poplar Road, and the Medford Service Center on Patton Avenue. The Department plans to award the three-year contract which will expire on December 31, 2022. The contract value is greater than $100,000, which requires City Council approval.

BACKGROUND:
The Field Operations Department maintains the services of an on-call Engineering firm for solid waste management services. On September 30, 2019, Field Operations Department issued a Request for Qualifications to solicit qualified and experienced firms for professional engineering services related to solid waste for the City of Greensboro. The Department has a variety of needs that may vary annually, to meet regulatory compliance requirements and facilitate solid waste management projects. The contract provides for separate sub-agreements to handle the variety of tasks for individual projects that will arise.

The City held a mandatory pre-bid meeting at the White Street Landfill on October 10, 2019. Prospective bidders were given an opportunity to tour each of the three City of Greensboro facilities (White Street Landfill, Medford Service Center on Patton Avenue, and the Transfer Station on Burnt Poplar Road). This also served as a networking event to foster partnerships between local M/WBE firms and a solid waste firm to team up.
