PURPOSE:

Through previous agreements, the City of Greensboro’s Parks and Recreation Department has a history of use of the Guilford County Schools-owned property at 3701 Parkwood Drive, Greensboro, formerly the site of Craven Elementary School. The property features an open space area that is maintained by the City and is used for patron parking for the Greensboro Arboretum, located across the street at 401 Ashland Drive, Greensboro. Council approval of this agenda item and accompanying resolution and agreement will allow for the current arrangement to continue.

BACKGROUND:

At its June 12, 2019 meeting, the Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously supported extending the shared use arrangement for the open space at the property.

As this is an inter-local agreement between the City of Greensboro and the Guilford County Board of Education, approval of the governing bodies is required.

BUDGET IMPACT:

Funding for minimal maintenance of the property is currently budgeted in the Parks and Recreation Department’s operations budget.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

The Parks and Recreation Department and the Parks and Recreation Commission recommend that City Council adopt the resolution authorizing the Craven Elementary Property Facility Use Agreement between the Guilford County Board of Education and the City of Greensboro.
