PURPOSE:
To authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract between the City of Greensboro and the Declan Donoghue Foundation for the purchase and installation of playground equipment at Lindley park. The Declan Donoghue Foundation will provide 51% of the budget towards playground equipment and installation at Lindley Park on the following terms: The playground will be named after Declan, such as Declan's Playground at Lindley Park; A sign is installed with Declan's story and legacy; The playground is designed with the Declan Donoghue Foundation colors and design including orange, purple and green butterflies; and The project is awarded without accepting other bids to Cunningham & Associates, a Game Time Company, as this is the only company that has the orange polies desired by the Declan Donoghue Foundation. The City will pay 49% of the cost of the playground equipment in the total amount of $35,000.

BACKGROUND:
The Declan Donoghue Foundation, created in 2010 by the parents of Declan Donoghue, seeks to carry on the memory of Declan through the spirit of play, by helping fund and build playgrounds in the Triad area. The third Declan's Playground, and Greensboro's first, was installed at Marylene F. Griffin Community Park in 2014. Since that time, the Foundation has expressed a desire to build a second Declan's playground in Greensboro. Department staff has worked with the Foundation to evaluate and recommend potential playground sites that would meet the Foundation's criteria.
