PURPOSE:
City Council is requested to approve the bid with Holden Building Company, Inc. to construct the new Community Building / Memorial to Women, as part of Barber Park Phase II development. The bids have been received and in order for the work to proceed on this contract, City Council approval is requested for award of the contract for $3,000,436.

The attached Summary of the low bid, complete with selected bid alternates and value engineering with Holden Building Company, Inc., outlines the work for construction of the Community Building / Memorial to Women at Barber Park. A resolution must be approved to authorize the contract.

BACKGROUND:
In 2009, Shermin Ata, Architect, PLLC was selected to provide design and construction documents for the second phase implementation of the adopted Barber Park master plan, which includes a Safety Town facility, a maintenance building, and a community building and memorial to the women of Greensboro. Funding for the project was approved by residents with the November 2008 Bond Referendum and is also supplemented with private funding provided by the estate of the late Ruth Wicker and Safety Town, LLC, for the memorial to women and Safety Town respectively.
