PURPOSE:
UNC-Greensboro (UNC-G) has requested an encroachment agreement to use City right-of-way at the 800 block of Neal Street and 1300 block of Haywood Street. When public or private entities request to use the City's right-of-way, it is required that they secure approval by City Council.
BACKGROUND:
UNC-G approached the City to install a total of 665 linear feet of underground utility lines beneath Neal Street and Haywood Street. City Council approval is required for any use of City right of way per City Charter section 4.128(c). This encroachment will extend UNC-G's infrastructure from the proposed Central Utility Building at 800 Neal Street to proposed Student Recreation Center (SRC) at 1301 W. Lee Street. These service line extensions include private water service lines, emergency power and electrical service lines, fiber optic, natural gas, and private sanitary sewer service lines.
This encroachment has been reviewed and approved by Engineering & Inspections, Transportation, Water Resources, and Legal.
BUDGET IMPACT:
All expenses related to the installation, maintenance, and repair are the responsibility of UNC-G.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
Engineering & Inspections recommends the approval of the encroachment which will allow UNC-G to use City right-of-way.
