PURPOSE:
The City of Greensboro Water Resources Department is requesting to enter into a professional services contract with HDR Engineering Inc. of the Carolinas to provide design services for the PFAS Fate and Transport Evaluation Tool Development Project. City Council approval of a contract in the amount of $155,000.00 is requested.
BACKGROUND:
The Water Resources Department continues efforts and research ways to address the source of Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and the presence of this contaminant of emerging concern in the city's water supply watershed. To date, the Water Resources Department has advanced a comprehensive and aggressive response to PFAS contamination in the city's drinking water supply including measures in place to treat the water, however, these are not long-term solutions. Council approved a contract at the January 19 meeting for pilot testing and evaluation of advanced treatment options for emerging contaminants at the Mitchell Water Treatment Plant. The Fate and Transport Evaluation Tool will provide the City the ability to forecast when levels of the unregulated contaminant will exceed the Health Advisory Level established by the EPA.
