PURPOSE:
The bids for Contract 2020-045, Concrete Sidewalk and Curb Ramp Repairs 2021 Project, have been received. In order for the work to proceed on this contract, City Council approval is requested for award of the contract to Atlantic Contracting Company, Inc. for $624,859.90.
BACKGROUND:
The work in this contract generally consists of removal and replacement of existing concrete sidewalks, curb and gutter, driveway aprons, and wheel chair ramps to repair them and make them ADA compliant.
The bids were opened on May 20, 2021, and the apparent lowest, responsive bidder was Atlantic Contracting Company, Inc. with a bid of $624,859.90. The MWBE goals for this project are a combined total of 37%. The contractor’s commitment for this project is a MWBE combined total of 37.13%.
The other responsive bid received was:
J Smith Civil, LCC $707,100.00 MWBE= 37.0% Goldsboro, NC
Yates Construction Company, Inc. $792,870.86 MWBE= 37.1% Stokesdale, NC
One other bid was received but it was deemed nonresponsive for failing to follow proper bid instructions.
The proposed date for start of construction is August 2021. The proposed date of completion is December 2021.

Funds in the amount of $624,859.90 are budgeted in three separate Field Operations Maintenance and Repair accounts:

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
It is recommended by the Departments of Engineering & Inspections and Field Operations that City Council approve the bid and award Contract 2020-045 for the Concrete Sidewalk and Curb Ramp Repairs 2021 Project to Atlantic Contracting Company, Inc. for the bid amount of $624,859.90.
