PURPOSE:

City Council approval is requested to convey a Permanent Utility Easement to Duke Energy in order for Duke Energy to install a new transmission line to service a new Verizon Wireless tower on City of Greensboro property at a Verizon Wireless Macro Station.

 

BACKGROUND:

The Permanent Utility Easement is needed from the City of Greensboro in order to provide service to a Verizon Macro Station on City of Greensboro property. Based on the location of the service center, which is directly beside Duke Energy’s Transmission tower and lines, the new transmission line to serve the Verizon center cannot be within a certain distance of the existing transmission lines. Duke Energy will be installing an underground service line from an existing pole to the Verizon Macro Station.

 

The subject property is located at 1198 Nealtown Road, parcel 0079261. This property is owned by the City of Greensboro.

 

The property is zoned CD-HI (Conditional District - Heavy Industrial). The required Permanent Utility Easement conveyance is an area of 2,688 Sq. Ft. (.06 acre).

 

BUDGET IMPACT:

No budget impact is expected with the conveyance of the Permanent Utility Easement to Duke Energy.

 

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

The Property Management Section of the Engineering and Inspections Department recommends the approval of the conveyance of a portion of property located at 1198 Nealtown Road.

 

That the City Manager is hereby authorized to negotiate and execute an agreement with Duke Energy for the conveyance of an easement of the hereinabove described City of Greensboro property in substantial conformity herewith and to execute closing documents; and

 

That, the Mayor is authorized to execute any deeds necessary to effectuate closing of this approved transaction.
