PURPOSE:

City Council approval is requested for a budget ordinance to establish a grant project budget for a second special allocation of funds awarded to the City of Greensboro by the U.S. Department of the Treasury in the amount of $7,081,066.00 to provide emergency rental and utility assistance to eligible households financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

BACKGROUND:

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has awarded the City of Greensboro a second special allocation of Emergency Rental Assistance funds, in the amount of $7,081,066.00, to be used for program administration and direct financial assistance to eligible households including rent, rental arrears, utilities, utility arrears, and other expenses related to housing. This allocation was authorized by Section 3201(a) of the American Rescue Plan of 2021, Pub. L. No. 117-2 which was signed by President Biden on March 11, 2021, to respond to the growing effects of this historic public health care crisis.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

City Council is requested to approve the grant budget ordinance for the U.S. Department of the Treasury Emergency Rental Assistance award to the City in the amount of $7,081,066.00 and to authorize the City Manager to execute grant documents.
