PURPOSE

City Council approval is requested to authorize and endorse the name change of the Guilford County Workforce Development board to GuilfordWorks.  This approval is required in order to submit a request to the State of North Carolina’s Division of Workforce Solutions to formally request a name change.

BACKGROUND:

The local units of government including the City of Greensboro, the City of High Point, and the County of Guilford comprise the Guilford Workforce Development Consortium.  All three member units must approve any amendments to the consortium agreement.

The Guilford County Workforce Development Board voted to change the name of the Board to GuilfordWorks at their December 3, 2020 meeting. This will enhance the branding of the Board across Guilford County.

BUDGET IMPACT:

There is no budget impact for filing the name change with the State of North Carolina.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

It is requested that the City Council authorize and support this name change, authorize the amendment of the consortium agreement to reflect this, and recommend that the North Carolina Division of Workforce Solutions approve this name change.
