PURPOSE:
An amended resolution is needed to reflect changes to the size of the buses and the not to exceed contract amount approved in a previous resolution.
BACKGROUND:
A resolution was approved by the City Council on January 5, 2021 authorizing the purchase of four (4) replacement 40-foot clean diesel buses from New Flyer Inc., with a not to exceed price of $2,080,322 via the Piedmont Authority Regional Transportation (PART) contract.
Subsequent to approval of the original Resolution, GTA revised the request to reflect four (4) replacement 35-foot buses to better align with the operating constraints of Higher Education Area Transit (HEAT) routes. GTA obtained an updated quote from New Flyer for these replacement buses at cost of $2,095,471, an increase from the previously approved amount. The cost of taxes and tags for the vehicles totaling $8,024 has now been included in the project, resulting in a total project cost of $2,103,495.
BUDGET IMPACT:
Funding for this project was previously approved by Council and is budgeted in GTA Grant Fund account 567-4537-03 as follows:

$2,080,332 Total
An additional $23,163 from Transit Operations Fund account 564-4531-01 is needed to fund the purchase.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Department of Transportation recommends City Council approve the amended resolution authorizing the City to purchase Clean Diesel buses from New Flyer, Inc. from the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART) bus contract.
