PURPOSE:
The Parks and Recreation Department has received a community grant from Dick’s Sporting Goods in the amount of $7,500 to support community programming, specifically development of a youth track and field program. To accept this grant, a budget ordinance is requested from Greensboro City Council in accordance with current city fiscal procedures.
BACKGROUND:
The Parks and Recreation Department has entered into a relationship with Dick’s Sporting Goods to provide and enhance community programming within the City of Greensboro. Dick’s Sporting Goods believes that sports play a vital role in teaching our children fundamental values like a strong work ethic, teamwork and good sportsmanship. As an organization, DSG is committed to partnering with and supporting teams, leagues and athletics in the communities they serve. The funds provided will assist the Parks and Recreation Department in establishing a youth recreation track and field program.
BUDGET IMPACT:
A grant account number 220-5004-01 has been set up for the requested action and will have no impact on the City of Greensboro’s budget.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached budget ordinance establishing funding in the amount of $7,500 for Dick’s Sporting Goods Community Grant.
