PURPOSE:
The City of Greensboro Water Resources Department is requesting approval for an evaluation/study for the Townsend Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Hydraulic and Permanganate Project. City Council approval of a contract in the amount of $221,423 is requested.
BACKGROUND:
Based on a recent challenges at the Townsend WTP, the City would like to perform a hydraulic and permanganate study at the plant. This study will include identifying the potential cause of hydraulic limitations and evaluating the effectiveness of permanganate to remove iron and manganese. During this study we will also look to determine if additional TOC can be removed using alternative ferric sulfate doses or pH values. HDR Engineering, Inc. of the Carolinas, was selected to the Water Resources on call in November 2019. For this contract, project team will consist of HDR, SAMR, PLLC, MLA Design Group, Inc., and Hydrostructures. SMAR, PLLC and MLA Design Group, Inc. are local MBE’s. The anticipated utilization on for MBE’s this project is 17.02% of the total contract amount.
BUDGET IMPACT:
Funding in the amount of $221,423 is budgeted in the Water Resources Fund Account #501.7025.01-5413.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Water Resources Department recommends approval and award of the Townsend Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Hydraulic and Permanganate Study with HDR Engineering, Inc. of the Carolinas for $221,423.
