PURPOSE:

North Carolina General Statute 143-355 (l) requires each unit of local government that provides public drinking water service prepare and submit a Local Water Supply Plan (LWSP) to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Water Resources.

Additionally, North Carolina Administrative Code 15A NCAC 02E 0.0600 requires all publicly and privately owned water systems subject to G.S. 143-355(l) to electronically submit an annual water use update based on their water use and system conditions by April 1st of every year for the prior calendar year.

To ensure full compliance with G.S. 143-355(l), City Council approval of the 2019 Local Water Supply Plan is required.

BACKGROUND:

A Local Water Supply Plan is an assessment of current and future community water supply needs and the ability of a water system to meet them. The LWSP is the mechanism by which the State reviews the local efforts of Greensboro to adequately plan and manage its water infrastructure for the current and future use of its residents and customers. The plan also provides useful information to the Department of Environmental Quality for the development of a State water supply plan.

As detailed in the attachments, the City currently has water capacity and maintenance programs established to provide water services through our 1,500 plus miles of water distribution lines and lake storage.
