PURPOSE:

City Council is requested to authorize a subrecipient contract with local non-profit agencies to carryout activities to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19) among individuals and families who are homeless or receiving homelessness assistance; and to support additional homeless assistance and homelessness prevention activities to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19.

 

BACKGROUND:

The Neighborhood Development Department recommends FY 19-20 Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Emergency Solutions Grant Coronavirus (ESG-CV) funds be used for homelessness prevention activities as reflected below:

Homelessness Prevention in the form of emergency hotel/motel assistance:  $188,400

 

Council is requested to consider the following funding recommendations:

 

Homelessness Prevention Services

Guilford County Commitment/Partnership                   $100,000

Interactive Resource Center                                          $188,400

Total Homelessness Prevention Services                   $288,400

 

BUDGET IMPACT:  Federal ESG-CV funds of $188,400 will be used to fund the contract.

 

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:  Council is requested to authorize the City Manager to execute the contract documents.
