PURPOSE:

The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department has received three local community grants from Walmart, in the amount of $1,000 each to support community programming. To accept this grant, a budget ordinance is requested from Greensboro City Council in accordance with current city fiscal procedures.

BACKGROUND:

The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department has entered into an agreement with Walmart to provide and enhance community programming within the City of Greensboro. Walmart Foundation was created to help support communities Walmart serves. Their philanthropic approach is rooted in their company’s missions to create opportunity, so people can live better. Walmart strives to systematically address some of the biggest economic, environmental, and social challenges faced in the world today.

The funds provided will assist the Parks and Recreation Department in purchasing Footgolf supplies, the newest sport for the department. Additional funds received will go towards future innovative programming within the department.

BUDGET IMPACT:

A grant account number 220-5002-01 has been set up for the requested action and will have no impact on the City of Greensboro’s budget.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached budget ordinance establishing funding in the amount of $3,000 for Local Community Grant.
