PURPOSE:
The City of Greensboro Water Resources Department is requesting to enter into a professional services contract with CDM Smith, Inc. to provide design services for the Mitchell Water Treatment Plant Sedimentation Process Improvement Project. City Council approval of a contract in the amount of $1,073,600.00 is requested.

BACKGROUND:
The Water Resources Department is working on a project to improve the sediment removal process for the Mitchell Water Treatment Plant. The removal process currently includes the addition of chemicals that cause the sediment particles to bind together and eventually fall out of suspension. The improved sedimentation process project will include the addition of plate settlers and structural improvements to the sedimentation basins in order to increase the sedimentation efficiencies of the sedimentation basin. Increased efficiency in early sedimentation removal will allow the plant to process water with less chemicals needed to aid in sedimentation.

CDM Smith, Inc. was selected to the Water Resources on call in November 2019. The design team assembled for this project includes the following MWBE professional service firms: Bree and Associates (MBE) at 10.48%, Critek Engineering Group (MBE) at 8.79%, CITI LLC (MBE) at 2.25% and Consultant Engineering Services (WBE) at 2.65%. The total MWBE commitment for this project is 24.17%.

BUDGET IMPACT:
Funding is budgeted in Water Resources Operations Fund account 503-7030-04.6019 A21045 in the amount of $1,073,600.00.
