PURPOSE:
City Council is requested to approve the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding between the three jurisdictions partnering in the 2020 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG).
BACKGROUND:
The 2020 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds of $241,872 will be administered by the Greensboro Police Department. The funding will be divided between the Greensboro Police Department, Guilford County Sheriff's Department, and the High Point Police Department. This Memorandum of Understanding Interlocal Agreement is a requirement of the administration of the JAG Grant pursuant to applicable Federal law. The total allocation is $241,872 and the amounts for each jurisdiction are:
* Guilford County: $ 59,544.80
* City of Greensboro: $133,029.60
* City of High Point: $ 49,297.60
The funding will be used by the Greensboro Police Department for items including racial equity training for officers, protective bomb suits for Greensboro's Hazardous Device team, and a fingerprinting machine to assist citizens with printing for job applications and background checks. High Point Police Department intends to fund in-car and body worn cameras and the Guilford County Sheriff's Department plans to purchase two fully marked patrol cars.
BUDGET IMPACT:
This is a reimbursable grant and any expenses exceeding the JAG funding will be absorbed by each agency's budget.
