PURPOSE:
The City of Greensboro, City of High Point and Guilford County have been awarded a 2020 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) of $241,872. To accept this award, City Council approval is requested.

BACKGROUND:
The Greensboro Police Department has been awarded an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) from the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance. The department will serve as the lead/fiscal agent of the $241,872 grant and will share the grant with High Point Police Department and Guilford County Sheriff's Department.

BACKGROUND:
The grant award, calculated by the Bureau of Justice Statistics, is a federal criminal justice fund that does not require a City match. The grant funding will be allocated as follows:
* Guilford County: $ 59,544.80
* City of Greensboro: $ 133,029.60
* City of High Point: $ 49,297.60

The funding will be used by the Greensboro Police Department for items including racial equity training for officers, protective bomb suits for Greensboro's Hazardous Device team, and a fingerprinting machine to assist citizens with printing for job applications and background checks. High Point Police Department intends to fund in-car and body worn cameras and the Guilford County Sheriff's Department plans to purchase two fully marked patrol cars.

BUDGET IMPACT:
