PURPOSE:
To provide additional time to establish a plan to reduce energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions.
BACKGROUND:
On December 3, 2019, City Council adopted Resolution 19-0770 authorizing the City Manager to develop and implement a Strategic Energy Plan to reduce energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions within one year. The Plan will allow Greensboro to fulfill its commitments to the Mayors National Climate Action Agenda, the National Mayors for 100% Agreement, and the State of North Carolina’s Executive Order 80 goals-all while transitioning to 100% renewable energy.
Due to emergence of the COVID-19 global pandemic, the City has encountered resource constraints which have disrupted development of the Strategic Energy plan and resulted in significant delays in completing the Plan.

There is no budget impact for this resolution.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
City Council is requested to extend the timeline to establish the 20-year Strategic Energy Plan and goals to transition to 100% renewable energy for the City of Greensboro to August 31, 2021.
