PURPOSE:
Guilford County has received funding through the CARES Lifeline Grant Program to support ongoing operations and impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. These grant funds are allocated to support contracted fire services in Guilford County, and has been divided between all Guilford County Fire Departments. This funding is to subsidize expenditures incurred due to public health emergency, COVID-19. These incurred costs would have occurred beginning on March 1, 2020 and ending on December 1, 2020. Funds may not be used to replace lost revenue or to facilitate additional long-term debt. Eligible expenses would include: COVID related costs in lieu of normal FEMA Public Assistance, COVID related personnel costs including public safety salaries and benefits, and preparedness items related to the mitigation of COVID-19.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Greensboro Fire Department currently provides fire protection into three contracted areas within Guilford County. These contracted areas include: Fire District 14, Guilford College Fire District and the Piedmont Triad International Airport. The Guilford County Board of Commissioners has appropriated the sum of $2,000,000 to support the impacts placed on all fire districts in Guilford County due to COVID-19. This amount was divided amongst all fire districts.
BUDGET IMPACT:
This item does not require any additional City of Greensboro funds.
