PURPOSE:

City Council is requested to authorize subrecipient contracts with local non-profit agencies to carryout activities to prevent for, and respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19) among individuals and families who are homeless or receiving homelessness assistance; and to support additional homeless assistance and homelessness prevention activities to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19.

 

BACKGROUND:

The Neighborhood Development Department recommends FY 19-20 Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Emergency Solutions Grant Coronavirus (ESG-CV) funds be used for homelessness prevention activities as reflected below:

Emergency Solutions Grant - Coronavirus         $1,350,000

Homelessness Prevention in the form of housing relocation and stabilization services: $1,350,000

 

Council is requested to consider the following funding recommendations:

 

Homelessness Prevention Services

Greensboro Housing Coalition                                                $400,000

Greensboro Urban Ministry                                                     $600,000

Salvation Army of Greensboro                                                $350,000

Total Homelessness Prevention Services                          $1,350,000

 

BUDGET IMPACT:

Federal ESG-CV funds of $1,350,000 will be used to fund the contracts.

 

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED: 

Council is requested to authorize the City Manager to execute the contract documents.
