PURPOSE:
The Greensboro Department of Transportation (GDOT) is planning to submit an application to NCDOT for the 2020 Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Grant Initiative Program sponsored by the Division of Integrated Mobility and the Transportation Planning Branch (TPB). The planning grant application package requires a resolution from the municipality supporting an update to the bicycle and pedestrian grant.

BACKGROUND:
In 2015, the City adopted the Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Greenways Master Plan Update to address the immediate and long-term needs for bicycling and walking in the Greensboro MPO Area. The update recommended future bicycle, pedestrian, trail, and greenway facility improvements, policy and program enhancements, operations and maintenance activities, and implementation steps.

Staff is completing an application for the Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Grant Initiative to update the 2015 Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Greenways Master (Bi-Ped) Plan. This matching program assists municipalities in updating a comprehensive bicycle and/or pedestrian plan every five years. Outcomes from the update will support the City's commitments based on the Plan2Play Parks and Recreation Master Plan (2019), the Vision Zero Action Plan (2019), and the GSO2040 Comprehensive Plan (2020). The Bi-Ped Plan Update is an opportunity to determine progress since plan implementation, conduct a detailed evaluation of infrastructure recommendations, and engage the stakeholders committed to improving accessibility, safety, and connectivity for bicyclists and pedestrians.
