PURPOSE:

City Council is requested to approve the acceptance of Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) funds awarded to the City of Greensboro from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and to authorize the City Manager to execute grant documents. 

 

BACKGROUND:

HUD has awarded the City of Greensboro Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS funds, in the amount of $533,970 to address the housing needs of low-income persons living with HIV/AIDS and their families. Eligible housing services include supportive services, tenant-based rental assistance, short-term rent, mortgage and utility assistance, permanent housing placement assistance, housing information assistance and resource identification services. The City of Greensboro is the grantee for the federal Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) grant for the Eligible Metropolitan Statistical Area which serves Guilford, Randolph and Rockingham Counties.

 

The budget ordinance to appropriate fund accounts for the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Grant (HOPWA) is attached for approval.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

City Council is requested to approve the acceptance of a $533,907 grant award from HUD and   authorize the City Manager to execute grant documents. City Council is also requested to approve the grant budget ordinance for the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Grant Coronavirus (HOPWA).
