PURPOSE:

The Greensboro Police Department and the City of Greensboro have been awarded a Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding (CESF) grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance in the amount of $556,091. A budget ordinance is needed to accept the award.

BACKGROUND:

The Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding (CESF) grant will provide funding to prevent, prepare for, and respond to possible future outbreaks of the coronavirus. Several City departments were involved in the planning and scope of the grant, including City Purchasing, Greensboro Fire, and Neighborhood Development. Several other departments submitted equipment requests based on their recent experiences and their requests were taken into consideration.

The funds will be used to purchase preventative and response equipment to include: decontamination equipment for City facilities, disinfecting equipment for emergency response vehicles, as well as personal protection equipment for City personnel.

BUDGET IMPACT:

The grant does not require additional City funds and the grant funds will be housed in account 220-3599-01.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

It is requested that the City Council adopt the attached budget ordinance establishing funding in the amount of $556,091 so that the funds may be expended.
