PURPOSE:

City Council is requested to approve the acceptance of a special allocation of Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Coronavirus (HOPWA-CV) funds awarded to the City of Greensboro from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) authorized under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) and to authorize the City Manager to execute grant documents. 

 

BACKGROUND:

HUD has awarded the City of Greensboro a special allocation of Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS funds, in the amount of $77,708, to be used to maintain operations and for rental assistance, supportive services, and other necessary actions to prevent, prepare for, and respond to COVID-19. This allocation was authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), Public Law 116-136, which was signed by President Trump on March 27, 2020, to respond to the growing effects of this historic public health care crisis.

 

The budget ordinance to appropriate fund accounts for the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Grant Coronavirus (HOPWA-CV) is attached for approval.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

City Council is requested to approve the acceptance of a $77,708 grant award from HUD to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19) to authorize the City Manager to execute grant documents.  City Council is also requested to approve the grant budget ordinance for the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Grant Coronavirus (HOPWA-CV).
