PURPOSE:

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded supplemental funding through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) that requires programming in the 2019-2020 Annual Action Plan.

 

BACKGROUND:

The Substantial Amendment to the 2019-2020 Action Plan includes the following Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) allocation and program funding awarded through the CARES Act:

 

CDBG-CV Funding for the City of Greensboro ($1,329,635)

 

Proposed Uses of CDBG-CV Funds:

Eviction Prevention Pilot Program: $100,000

Emergency Shelter Costs: $266,000

Employment Training: $100,000

Homelessness Prevention in the form of rental, mortgage, and utility assistance: $863,635

 

BUDGET IMPACT:

$1,329,635 in new federal CARES Act grant funds will be available to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the Coronavirus pandemic in Greensboro.

 

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

Request that Council adopt the attached resolution to authorize the programming and use of CDBG-CV funding.
