PURPOSE:
Requesting a resolution for the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department to accept a paramobile golf cart donation from PGA REACH Carolinas to be utilized at Gillespie Golf Course.
BACKGROUND:
The Parks and Recreation Department, through the Gillespie Golf Course facility, participates in the PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) military program, which is designed to introduce golf to veterans with disabilities and to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. The program introduces the game of golf through a developmental 6-8 week curriculum, taught by PGA Professionals trained in adaptive golf and military cultural competency. PGA HOPE Greensboro has been selected by the PGA REACH Carolinas team to receive a paramobile golf cart from the PGA Hope Charleston Section. The paramobile golf cart is a stand-up device designed to provide individuals with impaired mobility an opportunity to stand and participate in recreational activities that they may not have been able to participate in due to mobility restrictions. This paramobile golf cart is valued at $30,000. This device ensures secure footing in any position, and allows individuals to experience the therapeutic benefits of standing, as well as, boosting self-esteem.
BUDGET IMPACT:
There will not be an impact to the operating budget for acceptance of this donation.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
It is requested that City Council accept the paramobile golf cart donation for use at Gillespie Golf Course through the PGA HOPE program.
