PURPOSE:
A resolution is needed to authorize amended agreement #5 with NCDOT for the Battleground - Westridge Intersection Improvements Project (U-5306 B) to add federal and state funds to cover contract costs.
BACKGROUND:
Project U-5306B, currently under construction, is reconstructing the intersection of Battleground Avenue and Westridge Road to improve traffic flow and safety and to provide sidewalks and pedestrian crossing facilities. NCDOT originally agreed to fund 100% of eligible project costs using a combination of State and Federal funds after the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) submitted it for consideration under the Strategic Transportation Investments prioritization process. City Council approved execution of the initial municipal agreement in 2011. The amended agreement will add additional State controlled funds to fully cover higher than expected right of way and construction contract costs.
BUDGET IMPACT:
Funding for this project will be as follows:
$1,915,580 Federal (80%)
$478,895 State (20%)
$2,394,475
No additional City funds are required.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Transportation Department recommends and requests approval of the attached resolution authorizing the amended agreement for U-5306B Battleground Avenue / Westridge Road Intersection Improvements Project.
