PURPOSE:
A budget ordinance is needed to increase the budget for amended agreement #4 with NCDOT for the Battleground-Benjamin-Cone Intersection Improvements Project (U-5306A).
BACKGROUND:
Project U-5306A, currently in the process of being closed out, reconstructed the Battleground Avenue / Benjamin Parkway / Cone Boulevard intersection to improve traffic flow and safety and to provide sidewalks and pedestrian crossing facilities. NCDOT originally agreed to reimburse the City for 100% of eligible project costs after the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) submitted it for consideration under the Strategic Transportation Investments prioritization process. City Council approved execution of the initial municipal agreement in 2011. NCDOT has agreed to increase its funding commitment at this time upon a review final expenditures prior to close-out of the project.
BUDGET IMPACT:
Funding for this project will be as follows:
$348,820 Federal (80%)
$87,205 State (20%)
$436,025
No additional City funds are required.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Transportation Department recommends and requests approval of the attached ordinance increasing the budget for U-5306A Battleground Avenue / Benjamin Parkway / Cone Boulevard Intersection Improvements Project.
