PURPOSE:

City Council is requested to approve the contract award to Samet Corporation, for the demolition and construction of replacement Fire Station No. 7.

BACKGROUND:

In order to better serve and meet the needs of fire protection needs to the residents of Greensboro, the Fire Department will be replacing the current fire station located at 1064 Gatewood Avenue.  The new fire station will provide much needed upgrades and services not currently available to this aged station location. Facilities Construction has solicited the services of Samet Corporation to serve as the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) for demolition of the existing structure and construction of a new fire station to better serve the community.

Completion of the design phase and development of the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) was presented on November 22, 2019. As the Construction Manager, Samet gave a GMP in the amount of $7,861,285 for construction of Fire Station No. 7.

BUDGET IMPACT:

The Greensboro Fire Department will provide funding from future bond issues to be approved by City Council.

Guilford County will be part of the project as Guilford County EMS will occupy 22% of the square footage of the fire station. Reimbursement of 22% of the construction cost will take place after completion of the facility.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

The Fire Department & E&I requests that City Council approve and award the contract for construction of Fire Station No. 7 to Samet Corporation in the amount of $7,861,285.
