PURPOSE:

City Council approval is requested to convey a utility easement to Duke Energy for the installation of a new pad mounted transformer and new underground electrical power service for the new Barber Park Maintenance Building.

BACKGROUND:

On May 21, 2019, the City approved a contract with W.C. Construction for the construction of a new maintenance building at Barber Park. Construction began in July 2019 and is anticipated to be completed by March 2020.  As part of the construction project, an easement needs to be granted to Duke Energy for the installation of new underground electrical power services for the maintenance building.  Since the easement is an encroachment on City property, City Council approval is required.

BUDGET IMPACT:

No funds are required and there is no budget impact.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

The Parks and Recreation Department recommends that City Council approve the conveyance of the utility easement to Duke Energy Corporation for the installation of a new pad mounted transformer and new underground electrical power service for the Barber Park maintenance building.
