PURPOSE:
The City of Greensboro has been awarded Clean Fuel Advanced Technology Grant funds from the NC Clean Energy Technology Center for the purchase of two electric vehicle charging stations. A budget ordinance needs to be approved to establish the budget for this project.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Greensboro applied for and was awarded grant funds to purchase two electric vehicle charging stations to be deployed in downtown parking lots. Per the grant requirements, installation of the charging stations must not involve ground disturbing activity. The proposed stations are transportable and do not require permitting, digging, trenching, electrical connections, or other ground disturbance. They are solar powered and equipped with on-board battery storage for emergency power in the event of an electrical outage.
BUDGET IMPACT:
Funding for this project will be as follows:
$122,719 (75%) Federal Funding
$40,907 (25%) Transfer from Parking Facilities Operating Fund
$163,626
A budget adjustment is required to move funds to the appropriate transfer account.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Transportation Department recommends and requests approval of the attached ordinance establishing the budget for the 2019 CFAT grant to be used for the purchase of electric vehicle charging stations.
