PURPOSE:

Volkert, Inc. was selected to provide design services for the Structural Assessment and Construction Plan Development for the Rehabilitation of Bridges # 400493, 400461, and 400494 in the amount of $242,000.00.

 

BACKGROUND:

The City of Greensboro desires to rehabilitate Bridges # 400493, 400461, and 400494. The purpose and need of the project is to rehabilitate the existing structurally deficient bridges to meet current standards and extend the service life. Repairs may include, but are not limited to: cleaning and painting of beams and bearings, plating and replacement of deteriorated beam sections, joint replacement, and concrete repair(s) to substructure and superstructure.

 

Our twelve on-call professional services firms were considered for this project. Prime consideration was given to their past experience and performance with projects involving highway structures, roadways, traffic analysis, landscaping, utility design, and public participation. As a result of the analysis by the Field Operations and Engineering & Inspections Departments, Volkert, Inc. was selected for the project.       

 

Volkert, Inc. proposes the following MWBE Utilization:

MBE 9.6% - BBFoster Consulting, PC; Simpson Engineers & Associates

WBE 16.3% - Westcott, Small & Associates; Traffic Control Safety Services, Inc.

 

BUDGET IMPACT:

The total for this project is estimated at $242,000.00.  Funding for this project is available in the State Highways Allocation Capital Projects Fund in account number 402-4312-01.5611.  A budget adjustment will be required to move funds into the appropriate account.

 

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

The Field Operations and Engineering & Inspections Departments recommend and request City Council approval for the contract award, and corresponding budget adjustment, of the Structural Assessment, Plan Development, and Construction Inspections for the Rehabilitation of Bridges # 400493, 400461, and 400494 to Volkert, Inc.
