PURPOSE:
The Water Resources Department is requesting approval to enter into a professional services contract with Hazen and Sawyer, PC in the amount of $140,400 to perform a pump efficiency and system optimization evaluation of the pumping systems used to treat water, wastewater, collect wastewater, and distribute drinking water to customers.

BACKGROUND:
As a follow up to the City of Greensboro's LEED for Cities application and certification process, Water Resources is proposing a study to evaluate the energy efficiency of pumps used for treating water, wastewater, collecting wastewater, and distributing finished water to customers. In order to accomplish this evaluation, pumps and pump systems will be studied to determine the Pump Energy Index (PEI) and compare it to the Department of Energy's (DOE) Energy Conservation Standards for Pumps (10 CFR 429 and 431). In order to achieve the LEED for Cities Energy Efficiency Credit, a minimum of 50% of the City's pumps have to meet the required energy efficiency performance standard. This project also entails a task that looks at what is required to optimize low efficiency pumps and pump systems.

Hazen & Sawyer, PC was chosen for this post-LEED for Cities certification process evaluation based on their extensive knowledge of the city's treatment and distribution system operations as well as their selection for the department's list of on-call professional services consultants. The Engineering Services team will include Hazen & Sawyer PC, and SAMR, PLLC (SAM...
