PURPOSE:

City Council approval is requested to convey a utility easement to Duke Energy in order for them to install a new 500KVA transformer for the White Oak Event Space.

BACKGROUND:

The Coliseum is constructing the White Oak Event Space, also known as Piedmont Hall, located on the Greensboro Coliseum Complex Campus. The White Oak Event Space located at 2411 W. Gate City Blvd. is a new 20,000 Sq. Ft. indoor venue that will open September 6, 2019.  Duke Energy requires a Permanent Utility Easement (PUE), for approximately 2,230 SF, to install a 500KVA transformer for the site that is connected to the CVB and Swarm building, along with the installation of conductors and conduit to a Duke Energy pole on Ellington Street.

The result of a privately funded $4 million renovation of a portion of the former Canada Dry bottling plant, the White Oak Event Space is adjacent to White Oak Amphitheatre with patron parking available in the lots that also service the Coliseum Complex.

BUDGET IMPACT:

No budget impact is expected with the conveyance of this utility easement.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

The Property Management section of the Engineering and Inspections Department recommends the approval of the conveyance of this easement.
