PURPOSE:
The purpose of the attached resolution is for the City Council to request the North Carolina Department of Transportation to remove Mill Street and Alamance Church Road from the State Highway System and add them to the municipal street system. Upon approval by the State Board of Transportation, the streets would qualify for Powell Bill funding.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Greensboro Department of Transportation has requested the deletion of these streets from the State Highway System in order to facilitate the engineering design, plan review, and utility relocation processes associated with adjoining public improvement projects. NCDOT staff has reviewed the request and concurs with our recommendation. Deletion of these streets from the State Highway System will also make them eligible for maintenance funding through the Powell Bill program.
BUDGET IMPACT:
Approval of the attached resolution will enable the City to receive an estimated additional $2,896 in annual funding through the State street-aid “Powell Bill” program. The City will also be responsible for maintenance of the street.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Department of Transportation recommends and requests that the City Council approve the attached resolution requesting North Carolina Department of Transportation to remove Mill Street and Alamance Church Road from the State Highway System and add them to the municipal street system.
