PURPOSE:
The Governor’s Crime Commission Crime (GCC) has awarded the Greensboro Police Department a federal grant of $24,500 to address the overdose crisis in Greensboro. The grant does not require a match. In accordance with current City fiscal procedures to accept this grant, approval is required by City Council.
BACKGROUND:
The Governor's Crime Commission oversees the administration of annual federal block grant programs benefiting North Carolina's criminal and juvenile justice systems. This grant is a 2018 Byrne Justice Assistance Grant and the project serves to address the overdose issue Greensboro, NC is experiencing. Collectively, Guilford County EMS, Greensboro Police and Fire Departments are pooling resources for response efforts & public education. The goal being to reduce the number of overdose calls & deaths within the city.
The grant funds will be used for the purchase of Naloxone and public outreach. The grant cycle is active from October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2020.
BUDGET IMPACT:
This is a reimbursable grant and no match is required. The funds will be housed in 220-3586-01.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
It is requested that the City Council adopt the attached budget ordinance.
