PURPOSE:

The City of Greensboro has received federal funds from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to support eligible expenses for the Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2019 FTA Section 5307 Transit Security and Routine Capital Assistance Program.  A budget ordinance must be approved to allow the expenditure of funds.

 

BACKGROUND:

FTA’s Section 5307 Urbanized Area Formula program funds transit capital and operating assistance in urbanized areas and transportation related planning.  These funds will support one (1) project under the category of routine capital assistance and one (1) project under the category of transit security enhancements.

 

Routine Capital Assistance

 

Funds in the amount of $100,000 will be used to purchase one (1) bulk furniture lot to furnish eight (8) rooms as part of the renovation of the GTA Ticketing, Call Center, and Waiting Areas in the J. Douglas Galyon Depot, three (3) display monitor kiosks to be placed at the J. Douglas Galyon Depot as part of a technology upgrade coinciding with the renovation, and audiovisual equipment for the proposed Public Meeting Room.

 

Transit Security Enhancements

 

Funds in the amount of $54,760 will be used to support the purchase of replacement security surveillance cameras to be utilized at the GTA Administration, Maintenance, and Operations facility.

 

At their May 8, 2019 meeting, the Greensboro Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (GUAMPO) approved the projects. 

 

BUDGET IMPACT:

The City has been awarded federal funds in the amount of $123,808. The City will be required to provide local matching funds in the amount of $30,952. These local matching funds are budgeted in the Transit Operations Account 564-4531-01.6567. The total project funding is as follows:

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

The Department of Transportation recommends and requests that the City Council approve the attached budget ordinance establishing the budget for the FY2019 FTA Section 5307 Security and Routine Capital Assistance Program.
