PURPOSE:
Volkert, Inc. was selected to provide construction inspections for the Pisgah Church Road, Lees Chapel Road, and Yanceyville Street Sidewalk Improvements Contract 2019-029 (EL-5101 DL). City Council approval of the professional services contract with Volkert, Inc. in the amount of $553,794.56 is requested.
BACKGROUND:
The project includes installation of concrete sidewalks, curb and gutter, curb cuts, driveways, retaining walls, and erosion control items.
Upon review and approval by the NCDOT/FHWA representatives, our four on-call Consultant Engineering Inspections (CEI) professional services firms were considered for this project. Prime consideration was given to their past experience and performance with projects involving streetscape work, sidewalks, roadway configuration, traffic analysis, utility design, and public participation. As a result of the analysis by the Transportation and Engineering & Inspections Departments, Volkert, Inc. was selected for the project.
The sidewalk improvements work is to begin by September 30, 2019 and is to be completed by June 26, 2020.
This is a Federal funded contract, NCDOT/FHWA approved the use of the consultant, and is subject to 80% reimbursement by the NCDOT/FHWA.

Funds for the professional services contract are available in the following account:
