PURPOSE:
The Greensboro Police Department has received funds from the NC Department of Revenue Unauthorized Substances Tax proceeds in the amount of $125,000. The department wishes to use the funds to upgrade their current timekeeping software Telestaff. Furthermore, the department has other technology needs that cannot be supported with their general fund budget.
BACKGROUND:
The Greensboro Police Department is faced with their current timekeeping software becoming obsolete. The department does not have the budget funding necessary to implement the update; therefore, the department wishes to use Unauthorized Substances Tax proceeds for the project, software and implementation. Furthermore, as technology has evolved, the department has other technology needs not funded by budget funds or by other City sources.
BUDGET IMPACT:
The Greensboro Police Department will use NC Department of Revenue Unauthorized Substances Tax distribution funds for the Telestaff upgrade project and other IT needs. There is no adverse budgetary impact. The funds will be house in account 220-3594-01.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
It is requested that the Greensboro City Council adopt the attached budget ordinance establishing funding in the amount of $125,000 from NC Department of Revenue Unauthorized Substances Tax Distribution funds for use by the Greensboro Police Department.
