PURPOSE:

To amend Sec. 2-51 of the Greensboro Code of Ordinances to reflect the current compensation rate, annual compensation adjustments, and car allowance for the Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem, and Councilmembers.

BACKGROUND:

The Greensboro City Council took legislative action changing its compensation in 2005 and in 2016.  Compensation amounts for the Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem and Councilmembers are found in Sec. 2-51 of the Greensboro Code of Ordinances. Sec. 2-51 was not completely updated in 2005 or 2016. The current Ordinance lists the wrong compensation amounts. In addition, the Ordinance does not include the provision requiring annual adjustments in Councilmembers’ pay. Those instructions can only be found in minutes from Council’s regular meeting in 2005.

BUDGET IMPACT:

$1,050.00/monthly and $12,600/annually to account for the increase in car allowances.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

It is recommended that City Council amend Sec. 2-51 of the Greensboro Code of Ordinances to reflect the correct amount of compensation, to provide for annual adjustments to Council’s compensation, and to reflect the updated amount for car allowances.
