PURPOSE:

Allocations are for programs funded through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) administered by the City of Greensboro’s Office of Workforce Development. A budget amendment needs to be approved to allow the expenditure of funds.

 

BACKGROUND:

1.                     Includes Detail Section 1 in Attachment A.  The NC Department of Commerce provides Finish Line grants to local WDBs in partnership with local community colleges in order for community college students to complete training.  The Guilford WDB has been granted funds in the amount of $129,000 effective 10/29/2018, expiring 6/30/2019. 

 

The Guilford WDB Finish Line Fund is created in the amount of $129,000.

 

 

2.                     Includes Detail Section 2 in Attachment A.  The NC Department of Commerce provides a share of funding for infrastructure costs for the NCWorks Career Centers as of 1/01/2018.  Based on the current statewide infrastructure agreement, the Guilford WDB has been granted funds in the amount of $178,186 effective 10/29/2018, expiring 6/30/2019. 

 

The Guilford WDB 2018 Infrastructure Fund is created in the amount of $178,186.

 

 

BUDGET IMPACT:

The attached ordinance results in an increase of $307,186.  This increase will be funded through grant funds.  No City funding is required.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

It is recommended and requested that the City Council adopt the attached budget ordinance establishing funding in the amount of $307,186 for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Local Area programs.
