PURPOSE:
The Walmart Foundation has awarded the Greensboro Police Department a grant for $250 for the Greensboro Police Operation Yuletide. A budget ordinance needs to be approved by City Council in order to accept these grant funds.
BACKGROUND:
Operation Yuletide is an initiative by members of the Greensboro Police Department to bring holiday cheer to citizens who are less fortunate. Throughout the year, GPD employees meet people impacted by serious crime, accidents, or unfortunate life events. The employees organize to provide gifts of new clothing, toys, and household items to at least 50 households nominated by the police department. GPD works directly with these families to meet their needs and then deliver the gifts to each family.
Through their Community Grant program, Walmart stores, Sam's Clubs and Logistics facilities support the needs of their communities by providing grants to local organizations. The Walmart Foundation via Walmart Facility 5014 has awarded a grant to GPD’s Operation Yuletide FY 19 $250.
BUDGET IMPACT:
There is no effect on the department’s budget. The funds will be housed in account #220-3592-01.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
It is requested that the City Council adopt the attached budget ordinance for a Walmart Foundation Community Grant of $250 for the GPD’s Operation Yuletide FY 19.
