PURPOSE:

To receive and appropriate reimbursement funds for multiple GFD deployments to be reimbursed in the current fiscal year.

BACKGROUND:

The City of Greensboro Fire Department provided personnel and equipment to assist North Carolina and Hawaii during the last several months for natural disaster relief.  These deployments resulted in significant overtime expenses as well as associated maintenance and operations expenses. Specifically, this appropriation will be used to fund deferred maintenance expenses resulting from the deployments and to provide a necessary increase to the department’s overtime budget for the current fiscal year. These expenses will be reimbursed from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster relief reimbursements provided to municipalities that deployed resources for assistance.

BUDGET IMPACT:

This request will amend the General Fund Budget by $384,864. This request will appropriate necessary funds for reimbursement. These expenses will be reimbursed from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster relief reimbursements and will not negatively impact our budget.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

The Fire Department respectfully recommends and requests approval of the budget ordinance.
