PURPOSE:
The Greensboro Police Department has received funds from NC Department of Revenue Unauthorized Substances Tax proceeds in the amount of $200,000. The department wishes to use the grant funds for Toughbook mobile ruggedized computer docks for police vehicles which are not included in their general fund budget. Approval of the budget ordinance is requested from the Greensboro City Council in accordance with current city fiscal procedures.
BACKGROUND:
The Greensboro Police Department wishes to purchase new Toughbook mobile ruggedized computer docks for their police vehicles. The department depends upon Toughbook computers for patrol and supporting units to complete reports, receive dispatched calls and attain necessary information to complete their missions. Public Safety IT is replacing approximately 300 old Toughbooks with new leased models; however, the newer Toughbooks are significantly smaller than the current version and cannot use the current vehicle docks. Neither Police nor Public Safety IT have the budget funds necessary to complete the purchase.
NCGS 105-113.111 allows local law enforcement agencies to share in the NC Department of Revenue Unauthorized Substances Tax proceeds. The NC Department of Revenue distributes a percentage of the excise tax proceeds to the local law enforcement agency whose investigation led to the assessment.
BUDGET IMPACT:
