PURPOSE:
The City of Greensboro Public Transportation Division received a grant award from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Public Transportation Department in the amount of $184,485 to purchase 4/5G modems for the Greensboro Transit Authority’s fixed route and paratransit fleet. A resolution must be approved to authorize the City Manager to execute this contract.
BACKGROUND:
The Greensboro Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (GUAMPO) adopted a resolution endorsing the Public Transportation Division’s application for funding under the NCDOT Advanced Technology grant program on November 8, 2017. This grant will allow GTA to purchase 4/5G modems for the fixed route and paratransit fleet. Installation of modems on these vehicles will allow GTA to implement customer service enhancements such as accessible mobile/online ticketing and free Wi-Fi. On-board modems will also allow for real-time viewing of security camera footage.
BUDGET IMPACT:
The City will be required to provide matching funds in the amount of $20,499. These funds are budgeted in the Transit Operations Account Number 564-4531-01.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Department of Transportation recommends and requests that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing the City of Greensboro to enter into an agreement with the North Carolina Department of Transportation for the Fiscal Year 2019 Advanced Technology Grant.
