PURPOSE:
The Greensboro Police Department wishes to amend the contract with the Kellin Foundation to support the Greensboro Child Response Initiative (CRI). In addition to its on-going grant funding through the Governor's Crime Commission, the City of Greensboro authorized $150,000 as a contribution to a non-governmental agency for the CRI program and created a contract for the period ending June 30, 2017, which the police department later extended to June 30, 2018. As that City funding stream has ended, the Police Department wishes to continue supplementing the program and to amend the contract for an additional fiscal year, ending June 30, 2019.

BACKGROUND:
The Greensboro Child Response Initiative Program focuses on providing specialized mental health advocacy services to improve response to children who witness or experience violence in order to minimize the traumatic impact of violent crime among children. The program advocates are housed in the various police department locations and receive referrals from the department's patrol division. The program provides mental health advocacy services for child victims and enhances coordination of victim response across multiple victim-serving agencies.

The funds will supplement the program by provide salaries for personnel, training and office supplies for general day to day activities, maintaining program records and promotional materials to support the Greensboro Child Response Initiative Program that are not covered by the Governor's Crime Commission grant.
