PURPOSE:
The Property Management Section of the Engineering and Inspections Department is in the process of acquiring property for the Fire Station #56 Expansion Project. City Council approval is requested.
BACKGROUND:
The Greensboro Fire Department has approved plans for the expansion of Fire Station #56. The main purpose of the project is to rebuild Fire Station #56 in the same location that it is currently located. Strategically Fire Station #56 is in the most advantageous location to provide emergency response coverage to the residents in that planning grid. A larger facility footprint is needed due to the larger presence of personnel and the size of current day operations.
The subject property is located at 823 Cole Street, parcel #0079609. This property is owned by Kiet Nguyen Trust. The property to be purchased was appraised by Lynn Ritchy and was valued at $62,000. After negotiations the owner has agreed to accept $70,000. The Fire Department has approved the purchase amount.
The property is zoned R-5 (Residential Single-family 5). The property is 12,632 Sq. Ft. (0.29 acres). There is a house on the property that is 1,174 Sq. Ft.
BUDGET IMPACT:
Funding in the amount of $70,000 for this purchase is budgeted in the Fire Stations-Franklin Blvd Expansion #455-4008-01.6011 with an accompanying Budget Adjustment.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Property Management Section of the Engineering and Inspections Department recommends the approval of this purchase.
